Today's PTA gives parents a strong voice in setting local
standards for their children's education, by creating meaningful
dialogue between parents, teachers, and administrators.
To realize this, Oregon PTA served on Oregon Department
of Education committees, such as the Quality Education Model,
the Underserved Minority Student Academic Achievement Team,
and the Food Choices in Oregon Schools Task Force.
The parents of Oregon PTA realize that healthy kids learn
better. That's why we're spearheading initiatives for physical
education and better school nutrition. Oregon PTA belongs
to "Healthy Kids Learn Better," a partnership
sponsored by the Oregon Department of Education in coordination
with the Oregon Department of Human Services.
Through the use of CapWiz, Oregon PTA enabled
parents to become effective advocates by initiating over
17,000 contacts to Oregon legislators during the current
legislative session on issues ranging from school funding
and budget issues to lottery reform.
